The worms undergo a dramatic metamorphosis when reproductive pieces of the worms' back-end bud off, "swarm," and explode eggs and sperm into the water column. Mass swarming events are complex synchronizations of individual seaworms linked to the Moon's cycle as well as Kodi people's annual ritual calendar. Whennale swarm in Sumba's reefs, Kodi people also swarm to pray to the Seaworm Goddess and to harvest the seaworm for consumption. The Kodi belong to a biosocial network that includes humans, seaworms, the Moon, and the Sun.
